nice kitchen, good beds, good heat, funky cozy-comfy, the price This place won't be for everyone, so read the description carefully. It isn't a B&B or a spiffy new motel unit. But it is highly reccommended for certain types of people. It was perfect for our family of four on a budget. Probably would not be ideal for a large gang of guys (or two couples) looking for outdoor fun, since there is one double bed, a single, and a couch. At the price, it would also be a nice place for a couple. The options for eating out in Dunsmuir are not many. There may be other places in the area that have a kitchen unit, but this place has a decent kitchen work space and a roomy seating area where the four of us were able to sit comfortably together to enjoy our meals without feeling crowded. That's seldom the case with motel kitchenettes. As with all such units, the cookware supplied is rudimentary -- so many people steal things. We donated a toaster and a cheap plastic colander. If they aren't there when you visit ... Anyway, if you are used to, and look for, these types of lodgings, you probably already have your own portable box of stuff you can't cook without. Most of the kind of stuff you forget can be found at the hardware store or small grocery in town. Very nice people at both places. Roger, the owner, and Tammy, the manager, were friendly and helpful when we had questions, and not intrusive. But we try to be low maintnance guests. We will certainly keep it in mind for winter fun in the future as Shasta is very beautiful and not very crowded.

Little Apartment Beats Boxy Motel Room! Nice little place. Not fancy or foo-foo, but comfortable and clean. For the same price as a motel room, we enjoyed a living room, big kitchen, two bedrooms and a bath. There's plenty of room to stretch out - and it's splendid to avoid pricey restaurants, and cook "at home." We had some technical difficulties with the satellite TV and the monitor heater, but Roger and Tammy the manager took care of it all! Nice folks. I'll be back!!!

2-Bedroom Apartment Is The Best Kept Secret In The Shasta Area! I recently stayed at the Siskiyou Cottages, owned and managed by a very gracious, down-to-earth man named Roger Young. This 2-bedroom apartment was the perfect place for my 11-day stay since it is conveniently located right off the 5 freeway and within 10 minutes to Shasta city. Although I was by myself, this apartment is big enough to comfortably house 3 people. The kitchen is HUGE! So, if you love to cook, you'll enjoy all the amenities of a fully furnished kitchen. The full-sized bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable and inviting, which was perfect after a nice long hike up the mountain. Also, there's a washer and dryer on the premises, so I was able to do my laundry without having to haul my clothes to the laundromat. However, there is a HUGE closet and spacious dresser with eight drawers for those who don't care for doing laundry on vacation. ;-) I also loved having a living room to relax and watch television without being confined to my bedroom. I couldn't have been more pleased with my stay in Dunsmuir. I would definitely stay here again because not only was it more than resonably priced, Roger was such a joy to rent from. He and Tammy, the property manager, were more than accomodating. Tammy met let me check in at my convenience and upon check out, all I had to do was leave the keys in the apartment. I didn't have to be out by the standard "11am", which was nice because I had a late flight and it was nice to be able to relax before my drive to the airport. If you're looking for the best kept secret in the Shasta area, this is the place! In fact, I was almost hesitant to write this review because now everyone will know what a gem this place is and it'll probably be booked the next time I come up to Shasta. LOL! In all honesty, I wish Roger the best. He's an honest man who truly comes from service.

This place is a little gem of a find! We stayed there in the cold of winter and the unit where we stayed was warm and cozy. For the price, the furnishings are beautiful, complete with artwork on the walls. The manager was courteous when we checked in, and available throughout the entire stay. Very Comfortable at a Good Price.

Courtesy and Consideration The management at the Cottages really responded quickly and effectively to our needs. The rates are reasonable and it is located near most major points of interest. Roger supplied us with a map and pinpointed local spots to go. Well done!

A nugget of a find

Our unit at the Siskiyou Cottages was reasonably priced with plenty of space in the kitchen. We stayed in a cozy two bedroom that was located in the main building. Not a cottage. The hosts were pleasant and provided us with maps of the area and suggestions as to where to find good hiking and scenic beauty.

Clean and simple, this lodging was a delight to my family during our ski trip. Very affordable! The management is not only extremely accessible but goes the extra yard to make sure you have everything you need. About as close as you can get to the ski park. We got a good referral from the owner to a local cafe which served excellent brunch. Will definitely return!
